In a significant development for Tamil Nadu’s food delivery landscape, Swiggy has launched SNACC, a dedicated quick-service food delivery app promising 15-minute deliveries. The app, which went live on January 7, 2025, represents Swiggy’s latest effort to capture the rapidly growing quick commerce market in the region.
This launch marks Swiggy’s first venture into a separate app-based service, departing from its traditional all-in-one platform approach. The move comes as part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu, where the quick commerce market has shown remarkable growth in recent months.
Operating distinctly from Swiggy’s existing Bolt service, SNACC utilizes a centralized dark store model across key locations in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai. These dark stores stock ready-to-deliver items from popular local and national brands, enabling the company to maintain consistent delivery times and quality control.
“SNACC represents our commitment to innovation in the quick commerce space,” says Sriharsha Majety, CEO of Swiggy. “Tamil Nadu’s dynamic urban centers and tech-savvy population make it an ideal market for this service. We’re particularly excited about partnering with local Tamil Nadu-based restaurants and brands to offer their signature items through our platform.”
The app features an extensive menu including South Indian breakfast options, coffee, baked goods, and protein-rich meals. Notable partnerships include collaborations with Chennai-based filter coffee chains and local quick-service restaurants, alongside national brands like Blue Tokai and The Whole Truth.
Market analysts estimate that Tamil Nadu’s quick commerce sector has grown by 150% in the past year, with Chennai alone accounting for approximately ₹800 crore in quick commerce transactions monthly. “The launch of SNACC could potentially capture 25-30% of this market within the first year,” notes Karthik Reddy, a food tech analyst at TechTrack Research.
For Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem, SNACC’s launch represents more than just another food delivery service. The company has announced plans to partner with local cloud kitchen startups and food tech entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for regional businesses to scale through the platform. Additionally, Swiggy has committed to creating over 2,000 delivery partner jobs across Tamil Nadu through this initiative.
The competitive landscape in Tamil Nadu’s quick commerce sector is intensifying, with Zomato recently introducing 15-minute delivery in select Chennai neighborhoods and Zepto preparing to launch its Zepto Cafe service. Local players like Chennai-based Swish and Zing are also gaining traction, particularly in tier-2 cities.
“What sets SNACC apart is our deep understanding of local food preferences and our robust logistics network in Tamil Nadu,” explains Swiggy’s Regional Director for South India, Raj Kumar. “We’ve specifically designed our menu and delivery strategies keeping in mind the unique dining habits and peak ordering times in different Tamil Nadu cities.”
Looking ahead
Industry experts predict that SNACC’s entry could catalyze further innovation in Tamil Nadu’s food tech sector, particularly in areas like AI-powered delivery optimization and sustainable packaging solutions.
