In a significant restructuring move, Juspay, a Bengaluru-based fintech firm, has spun off its mobility platform, Namma Yatri, along with other mobility apps, into a new entity named Moving Tech Innovations Ltd. This strategic initiative, announced in November 2023, marks a pivotal step in Juspay’s efforts to streamline its operations and enhance the scalability and efficiency of its mobility services. The new entity will focus on improving customer experience and sustainability, leveraging a model similar to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Juspay, widely recognized for its payment infrastructure solutions, has been a major player in the mobility sector with its popular autorickshaw booking app, Namma Yatri. Launched in 2022, Namma Yatri has quickly become a significant player in the ride-hailing market, especially in Bengaluru. The app is notable for its zero-commission model, which benefits drivers by allowing them to retain the full fare without sharing a portion with the platform.

The newly formed Moving Tech Innovations Ltd. will not only encompass Namma Yatri but also other mobility applications such as Mana Yatri, Yatri, and Yatri Sathi. The leadership of the new entity will be under Shan M. S., the former Chief Growth Officer of Juspay, and Chief Product Officer Magizhan Selvan. Their primary objective is to drive innovation and enhance the overall customer experience in the mobility sector.

This spin-off aims to address the increasing demand for efficient and customer-friendly ride-hailing services. Namma Yatri, currently operating in eight cities, plans to expand its footprint to additional urban areas and turn profitable within the next three to four years. This move is also expected to attract external investment, with discussions already underway for seed funding to fuel further growth and development.

Key to Namma Yatri’s success has been its open-source protocol and collaborative approach. The platform has partnered with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), aiming to provide a seamless and integrated mobility solution. This partnership is expected to drive significant improvements in operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, setting a benchmark in the industry.

Statistics reveal the substantial impact of Namma Yatri’s zero-commission model, which has already enlisted close to 300,000 drivers. This approach not only enhances driver earnings but also contributes to a more sustainable and equitable mobility ecosystem. With Moving Tech Innovations Ltd., Juspay intends to replicate this success across its other mobility platforms, fostering a broader transformation in the sector.

Conclusion:

Juspay’s decision to spin off its mobility platforms into Moving Tech Innovations Ltd. represents a strategic shift designed to enhance innovation, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in the ride-hailing industry. By focusing on a UPI-like model and expanding its zero-commission approach, the new entity aims to set new standards in the mobility sector. As Namma Yatri and its sister platforms continue to grow and evolve, they are poised to make a significant impact on urban transportation, benefiting both drivers and passengers.
